Laura Maureen Bertram was born on September 5, 1978, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She grew up with two younger sisters, Heather and Jennifer Bertram, who also worked as actresses.

Laura developed an interest in performing when she was young. She studied ballet for several years and also sang with the Canadian Children’s Opera Chorus. Her early experience in singing and performing helped introduce her to the entertainment world.

Laura attended Leaside Secondary School in Toronto. After high school, she studied at Queen’s University in Kingston for one year before transferring to the University of Guelph.

Laura began her professional acting career in the early 1990s. One of her first important roles was Amanda Zimm in the Canadian television series Ready or Not. The show helped her become familiar to young television audiences.
