Grobglas was born on May 31, 1984, in Paris, France. Her father’s name is Jean Pierre Grobglas. He is of French-Jewish origin. Her mother’s name is Eva Grobglas. She is a Christian from Austria, who later converted to Judaism. When Yael was two years old, her parents immigrated to Israel and resided in Ra’anana.

From a very young age, she had a talent for performing arts. When she was a teenager, she learned professional dance and ballet. Later, she started her career as a model and participated in many runway shows and advertising campaigns.

Though her modeling career was brief, she found her passion for acting. She studied arts at the Yoram Loewenstein Performing Arts Studio in Tel Aviv, Israel.

She married her longtime boyfriend Artem Kroupenev, an Israeli businessman. On January 17, 2020, she gave birth to a baby girl and named her Arielle.

Some of her movies include The Island, The Foxes, Ramzor, Split, Golden Girls, Barefoot, Chill, The Selection, Savri Maranan, JeruZalem, The Pajamas, Grace Note, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, An Interview with God, and Undone. From 2013 to 2014, she played the role of Olivia D’Amencourt in the historical romantic television series Reign.

She played one of the lead roles in the American romantic comedy-drama series Jane the Virgin from 2014 to 2019. From 2017 to 2018, she played the role of Gayle Marsh/ Psi in the American superhero television series Supergirl.
