Beau Bridges was born in Hollywood, the son of actor Lloyd Bridges and his wife, Dorothy Dean Bridges, who was his college sweetheart. He was born barely two days after the assault on Pearl Harbour and was delivered by candlelight due to a power outage.
His parents immediately began naming him Beau after Ashley Wilkes’ son in Gone with the Wind (1939), a novel they were reading at the time. In 1949, he had a younger brother, actor Jeff Bridges, and a sister, Cindy Bridges, the following year.
Beau played basketball for UCLA his freshman year, transferred to the University of Hawaii the following year, but dropped out to pursue acting and got his first major role in 1967. He and his first wife, Julie Landifield, adopted Casey Bridges and then had Jordan Bridges. He and his second wife, Wendy Treece Bridges, have three children from this marriage: Dylan Bridges (born 1985); Emily Bridges (born 1987); and Ezekiel Jeffry Bridges (born 1989).
Beau enjoys playing guitar and collecting Native American percussion instruments, as well as swimming and surfing in the water, and he is involved in environmental and firearm control issues.

Early Life:
Bridges was born in Los Angeles, California on December 9, 1941, the son of actors Lloyd Bridges (1913-1998) and Dorothy Bridges (née Simpson; 1915-2009). His parents called him Beau after Ashley Wilkes’ son in Gone with the Wind.
His younger brother, actor Jeff Bridges, and his younger sister, Lucinda, are all actors. Garrett, another brother, died of sudden infant death syndrome in 1948. Beau had a tight connection with Jeff, for whom he performed as a surrogate father while their father was away on business. He and his siblings were reared in the Los Angeles neighbourhood of Holmby Hills.
Bridges played his freshman year at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) under famed coach John Wooden, where he joined Sigma Alpha Epsilon, before transferring to the University of Hawaii. He joined the United States Coast Guard Reserve in 1959 and served for eight years.
Career:
Bridges had an uncredited juvenile role as Bertram in the iconic film noir Force of Evil and No Minor Vices in 1948, and a third juvenile role in the film The Red Pony in 1949. Bridges and his younger brother, Jeff, appeared on their father’s CBS anthology series, The Lloyd Bridges Show, during the 1962-1963 television season.
He also appeared in other TV shows such as National Velvet, The Fugitive, Combat, Bonanza, Mr. Novak, and The Loner. He appeared as Corporal Corbett in “Then Came the Mighty Hunter,” Season 2, Episode 3 of the military series Twelve O’Clock High in 1965.
Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, he found steady work in television and film. During this period, he appeared in films such as The Landlord (1970), The Other Side of the Mountain (1975), Greased Lightning (1977), Norma Rae (1979), Heart Like a Wheel (1983), and The Hotel New Hampshire (1984).
In perhaps his most well-known role, he played one of The Fabulous Baker Boys alongside his brother Jeff in 1989. Bridges co-starred with his father in Harts of the West, a 15-episode CBS comedy/western series set at a Nevada dude ranch, during the 1993-1994 television season.
Bridges co-starred in “The Sandkings,” the two-part pilot episode of the Showtime science fiction series The Outer Limits, with his father and son Dylan in 1995. On ABC in 1998, he played Judge Bob Gibbs in the one-season drama Maximum Bob. He appeared on the Showtime series Beggars and Choosers (1999–2000).
In 2001, he appeared as Daniel McFarland, Jack McFarland’s stepfather, in two episodes of the NBC sitcom Will & Grace. In the fantasy adventure film Voyage of the Unicorn, based on the novel by James C. Christensen, he played a single father and college professor.
In over 30 episodes of the drama series The Agency from 2002 to 2003, he played Senator Tom Gage, the newly appointed Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. In January 2005, he was cast in Stargate SG-1 as Major General Hank Landry, the new commander of Stargate Command.
He also appeared in five episodes of Stargate Atlantis, as well as the two direct-to-DVD films Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum. His performance in the film Smile, alongside Linda Hamilton and Sean Astin, exemplified his personal beliefs about helping others.
In November 2005, he appeared in the hit NBC comedy My Name Is Earl as Carl Hickey, the father of the title character. The character of Bridges became reoccurring. Bridges’ performance earned him an Emmy nomination in 2007.
Bridges co-starred in the 2008 film Max Payne, based on the video game character. Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis also appeared in the film. Bridges as “BB” Hensley, an ex-cop who assists Wahlberg in his hunt for a serial murderer. The film received mixed reviews, but Bridges’ contribution was noted as positive. It was not Bridges’ first film involving the video game world; in The Wizard, he played a landscaping company owner who was later discovered, like his son Jimmy (played by actor Luke Edwards), to have a talent with NES games.
Cynthia Nixon, Blair Underwood, and Bridges won a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album for their recording of Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth on February 8, 2009.
Bridges received an Emmy nomination for his performance as Eli Scruggs on the 100th episode of Desperate Housewives in 2009.
Bridges joined Chris Mallick in the production of Columbus Circle in 2010. On March 19, 2010, it was announced that Bridges would play Joseph ‘Rocky’ Rockford, the father of private investigator Jim Rockford, in the pilot episode of a new version of The Rockford Files, which would air in the fall of 2010. In 2011, he appeared in Brothers and Sisters as an old boyfriend of matriarch Nora Walker and in Franklin & Bash as an attorney estranged from his son Jared Franklin.
Bridges assumed the role of J.B. on January 3, 2012. Biggley replaced John Larroquette in the hit Broadway revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. He was under contract to play the part until July 1, 2012. The revival, however, ended on May 20, 2012.
Bridges debuted as a major character on the CBS television show The Millers on October 3, 2013. He portrays Tom, the father of two children, Nathan Miller (Will Arnett) and Debbie (Jayma Mays). Tom, after 43 years of marriage, has divorced and moved back in with his daughter, driving her insane. Bridges debuted on the show in early March 2013.
Bridges has since appeared in several films, including Underdog Kids and Lawless Range in 2016. He’s also appeared as a guest on the shows Masters of Sex and Code Black.
