He is especially known for playing Axel Miller in the supernatural series Van Helsing, Sidney Snow in Hell on Wheels, Chase Carter in ER, and James Campbell.

In 2015, he made his Hallmark debut in the movie Love on the Air, where he played the lead role of Nick Linden alongside actress Alison Sweeney.

Jonathan J. Scarfe was born on December 16, 1975, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He grew up in a family connected to acting. His father Alan Scarfe, and mother Sara Botsford, were both actors. His stepmother was actress Barbara March.

Jonathan developed an interest in acting at a young age. He became a professional actor when he was around 16 years old and later trained and worked in stage productions, including at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival.
