Sampson started his acting career as a theatre artist. His debut movie was Resurrection: The J.R. Richard Story (2005), in which he played the role of Lamar. He has appeared in other short films like This Boy’s Dream, Immune, The Sidelines, Survival, and Rougarou. He was the producer and writer of the short film Immune. In the short film Survival, he was the assistant producer. In 2020, he played the role of Ronnie in the movie Miss Juneteenth.
Sampson’s big break in television series was in 2008 with the ABC Family series Greek, in which he played the role of Woodchuck. Following that he appeared in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in the episode Field Mice as Derrick Gold. In 2011, he appeared in Days of Our Lives as Jay Jordan. In 2013, he was booked to play the recurring role of Jesse in the fifth season of The CW series, The Vampire Diaries. The character Jesse was a confident and smart student at Whitmore College. He transitioned into an Augustine Vampire. He was used as a guinea pig by Dr. Wes Maxfield and later he was killed by Elena to save Damon.
In 2014, he was cast in the Fox miniseries Gracepoint as Dean Iverson. He appeared in the 2014 Young Hollywood Awards, VH1 Big in 2015 with Entertainment Weekly, Hollywood Today Live, and Up To Us. He has also appeared in television movies like Kingmakers, Ghosting: The Spirit of Christmas, and Fashionably Yours. From 2015 to 2016, he played the role of Caleb Hapstall in the ABC series How To Get Away With Murder. His character was a supporting role in season 2 of the series. He was one of the two main antagonists.
He was revealed as the killer of his adoptive parents and aunt. At the end of season 2, he committed suicide after he learned that there was evidence against him. Sampson has also appeared in other series like Supernatural, Rosewood, White Famous, Relationship Status, The Flash, and Insecure.
