Early life, Family and Relationship
John Michael Phillips was born and brought up in Mobile, Alabama and later moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 2001. He got graduated with his BA at the University of Alabama in which he majored in Political Science and Criminal Justice in the year of 1997.
Also, he went to the University of Alabama School of Law obtaining his JD in the year of 2000. He was then licensed to practise law in Florida, New York, Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois and Washington DC and is also licensed before the United States Supreme Court.

John M. Phillips was nominated to be the Mayor of Jacksonville to the City’s Human Rights Commission. A Brunswick, Georgia pastor has once asked the Mayor to force John to resign as he claimed he was biased and he is not the right person to serve the Human Rights Commission of the city.
Yet the Mayor was on John’s side and he remained to serve the commission even after that. On the 14th of November 2017, he resigned from the commission himself to relieve any conflict that had been perceived before filing civil rights lawsuits against the City of Jacksonville.
While one of the lawsuits was happening, during a deposition of the elected Sheriff, John agreed to settle the case and on the condition if the Sheriff apologize for the police brutality in a video and the Sheriff went on with the offer too.
In the year 2016, John M. Phillips was named one of the most influential people in Jacksonville, Florida by the Folio Weekly. He is always an active person in community outreach.
