Early Life, Family, and Relationship
Ash was born to Donald and Diann Ash in Florida. Because both of her parents were in the military, the family often moved, going to Germany and other countries. When she was younger, she went to a performing arts school in Atlanta, Georgia. Ash graduated from Emory University in Atlanta with a degree in pre-medicine with the intention of going on to medical school. Ash, however, made the decision to be in entertainment after visiting Japan, where she worked as a runway model and backing vocalist.

Ash received many employment offers in Broadway productions including The Lion King and a two-week gig in Germany in February 2006. She had a successful audition for the cable comedy series The Big Gay Sketch Show after her trip to Germany. Only two seasons were Ash’s on the cast. Ash had to divide her time between The Lion King and the first season of the sketch show when she was a cast member. LaTanya, an unrefined, loudmouthed fitness teacher who offers sessions with a “Chicago-style” flare, was one of her characters (i.e. Chicago-style yoga, Chicago-style pilates).
Ash joined Matt Braunger, Eric Price, and Lauren Pritchard in the MADtv cast in 2008 as a featured performer for the show’s 14th season. She became the sixth female African-American cast member in the history of the programme (Debra Wilson, Daniele Gaither, Nicole Randall Johnson, and Daheli Hall were the first four). Ash and Hall are the only two of the five female African-American cast members who never received a repertory player promotion. Throughout the fourteenth and last season of MADtv on FOX, Ash continued to be a prominent part of the ensemble.
For “Survivor’s Remorse,” she received nominations for the Image Award in the category Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2017, the Vision Award in the category Best Comedy Performance in 2018, and the WIN Award in the category Actress Comedy Series in 2016.
