Leslie Lloyd Odom Jr. is an American actor, singer, and writer. As a theatre artist, he is well-known for his portrayal of Aaron Burr in the musical Hamilton.

Odom started his acting career in theatre. He was a part of New Freedom Theatre where he studied theatre and also performed in musicals. He made his Broadway debut at the age of 17 when he played the role of Paul in Rent. In Tick, Tick… Boom!, he played the role of Michael.

In the off-Broadway production of Hamilton, he played the role of Aaron Burr, for which he was nominated for a 2015 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical. For the same role at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, he won a 2016 Grammy Award for the cast album and won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical. July 9, 2016, was his final appearance as Aaron Burr in the musical Hamilton. His other plays include Dreamgirls, Jersey Boys, Being Alive, Once on This Island, Soul of Rodgers, and Venice.

In television series, he first started appearing in CSI: Miami, in which he played the role of Joseph Kayle from 2003 to 2006. He has also appeared in several other series like The Big House, Threshold, Gilmore Girls, Vanished, Close To Home, Big Day, The Bill Engvall Show, Supreme Courtships, Grey’s Anatomy, NCIS: Los Angeles, Zeke and Luther, Bandwagon, Supernatural, Poe, House of Lies, Smash, Person of Interest, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Gotham, The Good Wife, We Bare Bears, One Dollar, Love in the Time of Corona, The Tony Awards Present: Broadway’s Back!, and Blue’s Clues & You!.

From 2020 to the present, he voices the character of Owen Tillerman in the animated musical-comedy series Central Park. He was nominated for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance at the 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards.

He has also appeared in films like Scarecrow Joe, Red Tails, Luna Goes Cruising, Murder on the Orient Express, Only, Harriet, Hamilton, One Night in Miami…, Music, The Many Saints of Newark, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, and Untitled The Exorcist Film.

Odom Jr. was born on August 16, 1981, in Queens, New York City, United States. When Odom Jr. was a child, his family moved to the East Oak Lane section of Philadelphia, where he grew up. He and his family went to Canaan Baptist Church in Philadelphia, where he sang solos in the church choir.

He went to Julia R. Masterman School for middle school and went to Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts for high school. After school, he attended Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he earned a degree with honors. After college, he moved to Los Angeles in 2003.
